        Our TENCEL™ & Organic Cotton French Terry is a Birdie core fabric and a Tried & True, to boot! We’ve carried this fabric since the early days of Blackbird so it’s no surprise that our customers ask for this knit year after year. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce the newest addition to our French Terry family: our Classic Organic French Terry!

        But what’s the difference between the two? While they sound similar, they are both quite unique and best used for slightly different projects. Come along as we dive into what sets these two apart!

OUR TENCEL™ & ORGANIC COTTON FRENCH TERRY

        Knit from a blend of LENZING certified TENCEL™ Lyocell and Organic Cotton with a healthy dose of spandex, this french terry is ultra soft and equal parts cozy and luxurious. Compared to our Classic Organic French Terry, our TENCEL™ and Organic Cotton French Terry has a smoother, more buttery hand and a gorgeously subtle lustre. The spandex content gives this terry a generous stretch and great recovery, meaning no baggy knees or elbows! Incredibly versatile, a fluid drape and medium weight make this french terry suitable for everything from t-shirts, turtlenecks, and wrap tops, to drapey dresses, slinky sweatpants and pullovers. Thanks to its comfy stretch, this knit is also wonderful for more form-fitting makes like wrap dresses, pencil skirts, layering turtlenecks, and tapered joggers.

OUR CLASSIC ORGANIC FRENCH TERRY

        Our new Classic Organic French Terry has a true retro look and feel, think of your favourite pair of sweatpants as a kid! Thicker and heavier in weight than our TENCEL™ & Organic Cotton French Terry, our Classic Organic French Terry also has a slightly heavier drape. With a higher cotton content, this fabric features a more matte look and a drier hand. Boasting a soft & nubbly large-looped back, this midweight knit is naturally breathable and perfect for all-year round makes. Pair this french terry with more boxy or oversized-fit pullovers and relaxed fit pants patterns for cozy loungewear sets. We’re loving it for styles like the True Bias Marlo Sweater, the Sar Kirsten Sweetpea Sweatshirt and Sweatpants and the Thread Theory Finlayson Sweater.
